things that are not keys

Drag the handle above a selection to rotate it. Drop an image on the canvas, or paste one. Click the reference image to sample a colour off it.

centring

Drag an element toward the middle and it snaps to the centre of the cover, with a line showing which axis caught. Each axis is separate, so a title can be centred across the cover while staying high on it.

locking

A photo fitted with COVER fills the canvas, so every click that misses the text on top of it lands on the photo. Lock it and clicks pass straight through. Lock it from the panel, the layers list, or Ctrl+L.

the two files

A .gatefold file is the whole cover: every element, the canvas, and the imported art itself. A PNG is only pixels. Exporting is not saving.
CREDITS

GATE//FOLD
A square album-cover editor by magmacrunch media.

licence

PolyForm Noncommercial 1.0.0. Copyright 2026 magmacrunch media, magmacrunch.com. Free to use for anything that is not a commercial purpose; the full text ships beside the app.

typefaces

Press Start 2P, Courier Prime, VT323, Silkscreen, DotGothic16, Pixelify Sans, Space Mono, Bebas Neue, Oswald, Playfair Display and Inter, all under the SIL Open Font License 1.1, whose text ships beside the faces in fonts/. Self-hosted rather than fetched, so a cover looks the same offline, and so an export cannot come out in the fallback face.

clip art

The 27 icons are from Lucide, under the ISC licence. They are drawn as canvas paths rather than embedded as images, so they take the fill and stroke of the element.

built on

magma-kit: the shared shell, undo stack, dialogs and art store behind this app, sprite-forge, deck-press and magma-ops. Tauri wraps the desktop build.
